What is a Vegan?
Vegans (pronounced VEE-guns) are
people who wish to alleviate the suffering of animals by not consuming or
purchasing products which contribute to that suffering. By
not buying meat, eggs, dairy, leather, and other products made by or from
animals, vegans are "making a statement against
cruelty to animals, undertaking an economic boycott, supporting the production
of non-animal products, and supporting more sustainable agricultural practices.
These decisions, and the message they send to others, help make society more
humane." (Vegan Outreach, "On
Being Vegan")
Though there are
many health benefits that come from being vegan, long-term vegans stay vegan
because of their compassion for animals.

veganism, see
